Our Professional Guides

There are so many reasons why a guide is vital anywhere in the world but on the Pitt River the need is even more acute. The need for the raft is critical as the water levels change constantly making it hard to access many spots of the river without one. With the raft you will enjoy peacefully drifting the entire length of the river, stopping to walk and wade from both sides of the shore along the way.

We are proud of our guide crew. All of them have the imperative skills of very keen eyes and great knowledge of our local rivers from how the variety of species in our river behave to the entomology required as the season progresses- these skills are a vital qualification for them to work at Pitt River Lodge. Our guides understand that not everyone has the same fishing skills or wants to walk at a fast pace. They are skilled not only at teaching but at tailoring each individual day to suit the many and varied requirements of our guests. We have 100% confidence that a day on the water with a Pitt River Lodge guide will not just be a fishing experience!

Dan Gerak

Dan Gerak grew up fishing the Pitt River and has lived in the Pitt River Valley for the last 18 yrs with Lee, his wife and 3 golden retrievers.. His love of fly fishing and desire to share his knowledge of this special river with others is how this all began.

Felix Geiser

Our top guide has been guiding the Pitt River full time for the past 5 years. After starting his career at the Pitt River Lodge at the age of 19 he has proved himself to be among the elite fly and spey fishing guides in BC. Felix was born Vancouver and raised in Burnaby, BC and has been chasing Salmon, Steelhead, Trout and Char with a fly rod around this province for as long as he can remember.

Now at the age of 24 is as passionate about guiding and fly fishing as he was when he first started.

There is no other guide that spends as much time on the Pitt River as Felix, which means his knowledge of the river, the area, the abundant species of fish, and how to catch them is second to none.

Felix truly love's his Job and enjoys meeting new people and spending time with them on the water showing them what the Upper Pitt River Valley has to offer, from the beautiful scenery to the fantastic world class fly fishing. He works hard to ensure that his guest are safe, having fun, comfortable and most importantly giving you the best opportunity at that fish of a lifetime. When it comes to the catching part his consistent success does the talking for him. Stacey Derrough

Started guiding when he was 21 on the ocean (Queen Charllet Isl.) Stacey has guided all over the North & Central coast about 15 years as well as guided trips in the High Arctic (fly fishing) for Arctic Char Lake trout & Grayling via helicopter. He was Head guide while guiding in Tweedmuire Park for 5 years for West Coast Resorts on Eutsuk Lake (Rainbows up to 15 lbs) and has guided big game both on the coast & in the Chilcotins. Stacey's knowledge and friendly personality will ensure that you have an enjoyable and productive day on the river.

Alexei Boyanowsky was born and raised in Vancouver BC and could cast a fly even before he could walk, perhaps because he shared a spot in his mother’s waders at 2 months of age while she fished the Thompson River for winter steelhead. He grew up learning how to fish the Thompson from his father Ehor Boyanowsky a famous steel header and speycaster. His love for nature and the outdoors became apparent from a very early age as fishing and hunting were his first great passions.

He was also attracted to bird shooting as he acquired his first shotgun at the age of 11. On a bet that he could put one shell into a hat thrown in the air using a semi-automatic 20-gauge Beretta, he hit it 3 times before it fell and was given the gun. When he was 12 he was invited to live in Normandy, France with Sacha Tolstoi so that he wouldn’t “Become a philistine like ‘is fazer”. He spent the summer fishing for brown trout in the nearby streams and became hooked on fly-fishing.

By the age of 16 he moved away from his life in Vancouver to Nelson BC where he apprenticed as a white water rafting guide for the next 2 years. He spent those years guiding 7-day trips down the mighty Chilcotin, Chilko and Fraser rivers in BC and eventually the treacherous Taku in Alaska which became the material for his first article published in BC Outdoors magazine.

Combining his love for the outdoors and his knowledge of rivers Alexei has fished around the world for Bonefish in the Florida Keys, Atlantic Salmon on the River Tweed in Scotland, Golden Trout in the California Alpine and Brown Trout in France.

Nick Didlick "Martini Man" Assistant Guide

Nick calls himself a Professional Fly Fisherman and an amateur photographer which shows you where his heart is since he has made a living as a professional photographer for over 25 years.

Nick has been fishing all his life, well as far back as he can remember, and started fly fishing when he won a Fraser River Bar fishing derby at the age of twelve in which the first prize was a fly fishing outfit. He pretty much threw out the bait bucket that day and started fly fishing from then on.

"Fly fishing is the essence of the fishing experience," says Nick. "It's a perfect balance of sport and nature and it's not all about catching piles of fish. But to take the time to look around, smell and listen to the river and let your thoughts drift away until that tug on your line brings you back to the here and now".

Nick has been lucky enough to fish all over North America, Europe and New Zealand and made his first trip to the Upper Pitt River in 1982! He now calls the Upper Pitt his home river. He is the Webmaster of a number of websites, most note ably A River Never Sleeps, a must see website for the Fly Fisher. He also is an accomplished fly designer and fly tier and has designed a number of flies of which two were designed especially for the Pitt River's Coho, Steelhead and Bull Trout. The first is Kelsey's Hope named after his Fly Fishing daughter and the second is Dave's Dream. Both patterns are linked here to A River Never Sleeps.

Oh and his nickname "Martini Man" was coined on a fishing trip when on the back of a float tube in the middle of a remote lake Nick was spotted shaking a Martini by a unknown float tuber who said, "Man now I have seen everything" to which Nick replied, "Buddy it's not a hobby it's a lifestyle", referring to fly fishing.

All fun aside, Nick is all about safety with his clients. His 10 years experience as a Mountain Rescue Team Leader has him always thinking two steps ahead.

Francois Blanchet "Frenchie"

Oringinally from Quebec, Francois Blanchet is fluent in both English and French. Despite his young age, Frank has 5 years guiding experience in the Whistler area and has been a fulltime guide for the last 4 years. He is an incredibly skilled flycaster and is a certified casting instructor with the FFF. An accomplished speycaster, Frank is very much a student of technique. It is with the discipline of his martial arts background that Frankie has approached speycasting and the result is he is considered one of the cleanest casters around. Frank has the ability to make anyone laugh and is a truly awesome guide and instructor. Frank spent the summer of 2004 guiding on the famous Cascepedia River in Quebec where he opened many eyes with our western technique and modern approach to casting and fishing two handed rods. Always a hit with the ladies Frank is a classic French romantic and brings this same passion to his casting.

Great day on the Pitt River System

The Pitt River is a tricky river to run with lots of shallow and tight corners caused by sweepers and trees which fall into the river during high water periods. The Pitt is also known to change its course quite frequently over the course of the season, which is why we choose to use 11'6"-14'6" inflatable self bailing white water rafts. They are the safest ride on the river and they enable us to stop and fish any piece of water we choose. They also work well giving jet boaters a ride back after they hit a gravel bar or a log jam.

Guide resumes can be sent by email to info@pittriverlodge.com Only serious fly fishermen need apply all guides must have rafting skills and be willing to take the Swiftwater Rescue course:
